Offsite Paramedic Class is Here!!!
The Center for Emergency Medicine is happy to announce that it is now offering an offsite Paramedic course using the same curriculum that the Center has had success with in the past at the Oakland Campus as well as the same high quality instructors. The Center's program is recognized as one of the most respected and successful programs in the country.

Why should you apply to the Center's paramedic program?
- It's the only accredited paramedic program in western Pennsylvania.Its program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Health.
- The Center's educators wrote the paramedic curriculum.
The U.S. government contracted the Center for Emergency Medicine to develop and revise the National Standard Paramedic Curriculum, and it is being implemented nationwide.
- Unique educational experiences shared with students from around the world.
Students from around the world come to learn at the Center. Currently, the paramedic program hosts students from across the United States as well as from Iceland, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia.

You can ride along with city paramedics! You can train on-board a STAT MedEvac medical helicopter! You can learn from some of the top healthcare facilities in the country!
In the program, paramedic students gain emergency medicine knowledge through:
Lecture The faculty provides students advanced knowledge in anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and health science courses such as:
- Pathophysiology
- Medication Administration Lab
- Patient Assessment
- Foundations of Emergency Care
- Cardiology and Respiratory
Field training Students will gain excellent experience by riding with the city of Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS and other EMS services and flying with STAT MedEvac, the region's leader in air medical transport.
Clinical training Students will complete their clinical training at:
- Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC
- UPMC Magee Women's Hospital
- UPMC Mercy Hospital
- UPMC Health System
- Western Pennsylvania Hospital
Paramedic students also have full access to a significant medical library, sophisticated training equipment and a state-of-the-art computer lab.

While in training, each student completes in-hospital clinical experience in the following areas:
- Emergency Department
- Critical Care (Coronary Care Unit, Trauma ICU, Cardiovascular Surgery ICU, etc.)
- Burn Care
- Operating Room/Recovery Room/Anesthesia
- Intravenous Team/Phlebotomy
- Pediatrics
- Psychiatric
- Obstetrics/Gynecology (Labor Suite, Delivery Room, Newborn Nursery, etc.)
- Trauma Team
- Respiratory Care
- ECT for ventilation practice
At the successful completion of the didactic and clinical courses, students are required to complete a 120-hour Summative Field Evaluation where the student functions as a primary part of an EMS crew.
SPECIALTY CERTIFICATIONS The curriculum has been designed to provide the student with an opportunity to obtain certification in:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals(PEPP)
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)
