CURRICULUM:

As part of the Emergency Medical Technician Course, you are required to take two didactic sessions and one practical session a week, both of which are offered to fit a variety of schedules. Students receive instruction in the practice of emergency medicine through lecture, practical skills labs, and optional clinical training. The curriculum is designed to involve students in all components of the program concurrently.

The curriculum has been designed to provide the student an opportunity to obtain certification in:

* American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support
* Pennsylvania Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician
* National Registry Certification at the EMT-Basic Level

The curriculum of the Emergency Medical Technician education course meets or exceeds the training requirements as established by the United States Department of Transportation in the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic National Standard Curriculum. Upon graduation from the program, the student is eligible to sit for the Pennsylvania Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician State Certification Examination and the National Registry.

PREREQUISITES:
To be eligible for the enrollment in the Center for Emergency Medicine's Emergency Medical Technician Program, the applicant must be 16 years of age.

In accordance with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania EMS training guidelines, the student must possess the sensory acuity and the physical ability to perform all of the diagnostic, therapeutic, and communication functions of an Emergency Medical Technician. Please contact the Center for a Functional Job Description of the Emergency Medical Technician and a detailed list of the sensory and physical requirements for the Emergency Medical Technician course.

To apply to the program, the candidate must:

* Submit a completed application,
* Submit a $50 deposit.

The Center for Emergency Medicine has a rolling admission policy. Our classes fill early and lack of payment may cause potential students to loose their space in the class.  Please submit tuition with your application to avoid this issue.

TUITION:
The tuition for the Emergency Medical Technician Course is:

* $125

In an effort to make the program as accessible to as many students as possible, a tuition payment plan has been developed that will enable the student to disperse the tuition into monthly payments.

Transportation, food, and parking during the course are the financial responsibility of the student.

2010 Offsite schedule and location:
The Center for Emergency Medicine sponsors numerous Emergency Medical Technician Programs per year. Acceptable forms of payment:
The Center for Emergency Medicine can accept Checks, Money Orders, or Credit Cards as forms of payment for classes. The Center is no longer able to accept Cash as a method of payment. Credit Cards Accepted: Mastercard, VISA, American Express, Discover, Diners Club.

Refunds:
Requests for full refunds must be made in writing at least ten working days prior to the course. The course fee will be returned with a 20% deduction for administrative fees. No refunds are issued for cancellations made after the above-mentioned deadline or for failure to attend the course. In the event of course cancellation, participants are notified and a full refund granted
